History: [ top ]

The origin of the race goes back to 1994, when for the first time, a group of enthusiastic cyclists made a run across the hills of the Juarez Mountains looking for new challenges to practice mountain biking.

During this time there was a myth of the appearance of a strange creature that killed animals in the wilderness by sucking their blood, the “Chupacabras”.

In one of their trips early at 6 AM at the antennas of the Franklin Mountains in El Paso with no one around, Jaime Flores and Julio Salazar, participants of this trip, joking said that being in this wilderness they were exposed to the Chupacabras.

From this moment on, the trail was officially named CHUPACABRAS.

Soon, they started tracing and making trails and crossed ranches to reach 12 hour runs; until 1997, Chupacabras100km was founded as an organized race and legally registered.

Club Ponchados de Juarez A.C. is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the sport and benefit our community at the same time through economic benefits for all those local companies that have proudly joined the exclusive group of sponsors of the most important cycling event in Mexico.

With over 10 years of history, we strongly believe that with the intervention of the whole community we will achieve a proud image of the City of Juarez.
